A two-day international forum bringing together African governments and institutions, companies, technical partners and financiers to turn priorities into concrete, financeable projects.
GRAND HOTEL PLAZA, VIA DEL CORSO 126
Organised by Fondazione SED Enrico Mattei
The Mattei Method brings Enrico Mattei’s founding idea into the present: partnership, reciprocity and shared development. It is not a formula and does not seek to prescribe a direction to governments. It is a method for connecting priorities, expertise, industry, infrastructure and capital.
Agriculture is one of the great engines of African development, spanning food security, pharmaceuticals and active ingredients, and feedstocks for biofuels. A growing share of processing must take place in Africa, where raw materials, work and knowledge can become industry, employment and growth.
The Forum approaches energy with realism. Oil and gas remain essential for many economies and are discussed alongside renewables, hydrogen and biofuels, with technology, efficiency and environmental responsibility. Infrastructure, logistics, health, training and security complete the foundations.
All of this must be financed. The Forum brings countries, projects, companies, technology and capital to the same table, with the aim of identifying ten named country projects, defined counterparts, industrial partners, possible sources of finance and a clear path to delivery. Success will not be measured by how many people fill the room, but by how many projects move forward once the Forum has ended.
The Forum also launches the Enrico Mattei Awards, recognising entrepreneurship, institutions, innovation, sustainable development and social impact across Africa. The first edition will be presented at the Gala Dinner on 12 November.
A practical method for aligning priorities, capabilities and capital around projects that can move forward.
Start with country priorities, local knowledge and clearly identified counterparts.
Bring governments, industry, technology and finance around the same project.
Define responsibilities, sources of capital and a credible path from proposal to implementation.
About
Chaired by Aroldo Curzi Mattei, the Foundation carries forward the method that gives it its name. Enrico Mattei, founder and first president of ENI, treated producing countries as partners rather than mere suppliers of raw materials. Seventy years later, while preserving the memory of our inspiration, we apply the same principle to African industrialisation: energy, food and prosperity produced locally, on African soil, by African hands.
Africa is our priority region. We work across the entire agricultural value chain, from land to processing, from pharmaceuticals to energy, carbon finance, infrastructure and healthcare. We connect local projects with industrial, technological and financial capabilities to make them investable, together with an ecosystem of partners who share our long-term vision.
The Foundation works with a Strategic Council and an Expert Committee made up of executives, entrepreneurs, university professors and representatives of leading Italian and international institutions and companies.
To build sustainable, inclusive and replicable development models, strengthening Italy’s role as a strategic partner in the economic and social growth of emerging countries.
Building with Africa, not for Africa.
